Title IX prohibits federal financial assistance to any educational institution which practices sex discrimination. Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 prohibits discrimination in employment because of sex, race, color, national origin or religion. The state Equal Rights Amendment in Washington prohibits the denial of rights because of sex.
